There are a lot of rare questions related to dogs and their owners which deserve your attention. Why is your dog acting weird after grooming, is definitely one of them. Now we will give you the answer. It is worth noting that some dog owners have reported their dogs to feel sad after grooming as well. Anyway, this is an interesting topic that does deserve your attention.

Reason Why Is Your Dog Acting Weird After Grooming

Your dog feels confused or scared. Well, think of your hair. If you have long hair and you cut it, you will look strange, and you will need time to get used to it. The situation is the same when it comes to dogs.

They didn’t anticipate the massive change (yes, grooming is a massive change for most dogs), and they are scared, confused, or even sad. Many dogs don’t like changes. As you know, they have one owner, and they want only one owner and to live in one home. That’s why most dogs don’t like moving to another home and can easily suffer from separation anxiety.

In General, A Dog will Feel Differently

Removing that much hair from the body makes a dog feel lighter and also feel the temperature more easily. This is a massive change, and he may not know why it happened. As such, it is necessary to give a few days to your pet so he can get used to the new look and adapt better.

There are a few things we would like to add here. First of all, this is perfectly normal behavior, and there is no need to worry about it. As we have mentioned earlier, your pet may be confused or something else. He can also hide from you, or he may even run away from people. This is all normal, and time will cure it all. In a nutshell, there is no need to do anything, and you just need to wait until your dog gets used to his new hair. Some dogs even act strangely when you bathe them. It is common that some soap causes itching, which makes things even weirder.

If you are not satisfied with the work and you get angry at the groomer, your dog will suffer. A dog will think it is his fault, and he may avoid you for some time or he may look sad. It is better to keep a dog away if you have something to say to the groomer. This affects more dogs than you may believe.

Abnormal Behavior After Grooming

All of what we have covered above is perfectly normal and there is no need to be concerned or worry about anything. Within a few days, your pet will get back on track and he will start acting as he always did. But, there are some signs that are, let’s just say different. In general, your dog will show abnormal behavior and this is when you need to act. They include:

A Dog Who Sleeps The Entire Day

Groomers can use various medications to sedate a dog so he is still during the grooming process. It is perfectly normal and actually common for dogs who don’t allow grooming otherwise. But, if your dog doesn’t return to its normal state, contact your vet.

Shaking Head

It means that the water is in his ears and you need to wait until it gets out. But, if your dog does this excessively, you may need professional help.

A Lot Of Scratching

Dogs who scratch much more than ever before usually have skin irritation or similar issues caused by the grooming process. Usually, there is no need to do anything about it, but in some cases, you may want to use a treatment.

Blood Seen In Rectum or Nails

This means that the injury is present. If the nails are bloody, it means that they are injured. If the rectum is bloody, it means that the injury is in that location (it is caused while cleaning anal glands).

Aggressive Dog

If your dog is aggressive, he may be in pain. There are many other reasons as well. It is, once again, best to contact your vet. It is possible that a groomer injured your pet, and now he is scared and angry.

All of these are not common issues, and they may appear rarely. But they are not something your dog needs, and you need to help him solve a problem as soon as you can. Mistakes and errors do happen, so it is possible that your groomer made one. If these issues persist for a few days, you will want to take him back to a groomer or to a vet, which is the better option.

Grooming Is Still Needed

Grooming of a dog is needed or even mandatory in some cases. If your dog has too thick fur, grooming can sort it out. It will also help your dog look younger and more beautiful. Overall, grooming will maintain the fur of your pet and keep it in pristine condition. This also reduces the risk of skin issues and makes your dog healthier. Regular grooming can help owners detect various issues, allergies, and irritations that would normally be unseen until the state is more severe.

Some dogs like it while others do not. One way or another, if your dog needs grooming, you need to provide this to him. He will eventually get used to it and this will be a simple process.

Conclusion

Why is your dog acting weird after grooming? Well, now you know the answer and you can apply this knowledge to all dogs and to all situations. It is important to remember that if your pet shows ordinary sighs, there is no need to do anything. But, if he shows some abnormal behavior, help is needed. It means you will need to contact your vet and help your dog.
