You can see that your pet will rub his face on the carpet. He does this all the time or occasionally. Why does my dog rub his face on my carpet? This is an obvious question that needs an answer right now. As always there are multiple reasons and we will explain all of them. Now you can understand your pet more and help him when needed.

6 Reasons Why Does My Dog Rub His Face On My Carpet

1. He Wants To Clean His Face

Dogs are smart. Why does my dog rub his face on my carpet? Well, he wants to clean his face and this is the best way. He won’t rub against something hard when this is the case. He will rub his face on the carpet or even grass.

There are two situations when this will be the case. First of all, he will do this when he is done eating. He will want to remove small pieces of food that are on his nose and face. The second reason is in the morning. He will want to remove eye boogers. Yes, dogs will do this.

2. Infection, Parasite, or Allergy

Here we have three reasons that can manifest in the same way. If your pet has an allergy, parasite, or infection he will rub his face on the carpet. The most common issue here is an ear infection. You will notice a discharge from the ear, pain and he will scratch his ear all the time. Keep in mind that if this is the cause, he will rub his side of the face and his ear against the carpet.

Ear infections are a common thing in dogs and they always need treatment. You will have to take him to a vet and start treatment as soon as possible. Basically, his ear is itchy and he can’t do anything about it. He needs help. In some cases, the issue will go away. But, if he does this all the time, for a long period of time help is mandatory.

Puppies Eating Grass: Why They Do This?

August 15, 2023

If you have just started using a new product for cleaning at your home, this can be the cause. Your pet might be allergic to that product. As a result, he will be in massive discomfort and he will need help. Always use products that are safe for pets. You can and you should talk to your vet and find the cause. You all believe that dogs are extremely strong. They lived in the wild for centuries. Well, our dogs are sensitive and they are not as resilient as you may think.

3. Teething

Puppies can rub their face on the carpet due to teething. It is not a very common thing but it can happen. Teething is extremely uncomfortable. Luckily, it doesn’t last very long. A puppy will rub his face on the carpet in order to try and remove the discomfort. Teething may look to him like he has something stuck between the teeth and rubbing should help. There is no need to add that adult dogs will not rub their face on the carpet due to this reason.

4. Dogs With Facial Folds Do This All The Time

If you have a dog who has facial folds, he will rub his face on the carpet every single day. He will do this to scratch the area or to clean it. There are all kinds of examples of why a dog will do this. In general, he feels uncomfortable and he will need to relieve the discomfort. Rubbing his face on the carpet is the best way to do that. Bulldogs and pugs are the most common dogs who do this.

5. Dental Problems

Here we have one of the most common reasons and the one that affects millions of dogs, especially older dogs. A loose tooth or any other issue with teeth can cause this behavior. In a nutshell, your pet will have discomfort in his mouth and he will rub his face and try to get help. It would be a smart decision to take him to a vet and see if there are any issues.

It is rare but it can happen that a loose tooth is stuck between the healthy teeth. Your pet won’t be able to close his mouth. This is a severe issue. You will have to help your pet immediately.

6. He Likes That

Not always you can see this as a symptom of something bad. In most cases, you can see a dog rubbing his face on the carpet without a reason. He simply likes the feeling and he will do this all the time. Keep in mind that if your pet does this due to this reason, he will do this for a couple of seconds. A dog is bored. You should play with him more.

Is This Dangerous Behavior?

No, it is not. You can enjoy looking at your pet as he does this. But it can be a symptom of something. You will have to look at the signs and find the solution. If your pet has been doing this for a long period of time and he is also upset or sad most of the time, you need to take him to a vet. If your pet does this when he is bored or just because it is fun there is no need to do anything.

Should you change this behavior? No, you don’t have to do this. In most cases, you need to find the cause of this behavior and solve the main problem. The behavior itself is not a big deal and there are no complications you must worry about.

The Final Word

Why does my dog rub his face on my carpet all the time? There are two simple answers here. The first one is he likes it and there is no need to do anything. The second is that there is a problem and he uses this behavior to get help. Then you need to react and you must help your pet.
