So, you have a puppy, and you are wondering what you can expect from it. Puppies grow fast, and they develop at an astonishing rate. You can always see him doing something new, weird, or even amazing. What can I expect from my 10-week old puppy? You can expect a lot of things. Below, we are going to reveal those things and give you some helpful answers.

5 Things Puppies Will Do At 10-Week Old

What can I expect from my 10-week old puppy? Keep in mind that every dog and every puppy is different. All these things and actions are common among puppies of this age, but your puppy may do additional things or not do some of these.

1. Playing All The Time

Yes, a puppy will want to play all the time. Puppies are very interesting at this stage and they will use all kinds of toys they can find. The whole world is a completely new place for them so they want to explore, test things and learn. Playing is the best way to do this.

2. They Pee Every 2 Hours

You probably know this already. Small puppies pee all the time. In fact, younger puppies will pee every hour! This can make caring difficult. At this stage, a puppy will pee every 2 hours. They decrease the frequency as they age. But, old dogs once again pee more frequently. This is the best time to start with potty training.

3. Sleep A Lot

Another thing you must know is that puppies will sleep a lot. At this age, they sleep more than they are awake or they will have short naps all the time. Most puppies sleep up to 20 hours per day. Leave them to sleep and don’t wake them up. They are basically babies so they need sleep.

4. Be Close To You, All The Time

You are the puppy’s mother now. A puppy will want to spend as much time with you as possible. You should try to give this to your puppy. Try to find the time and use it wisely.

5. Play With Almost Everything

A puppy here will play with all the things available. New puppies will prefer soft toys. Teething is not present at this stage hence soft toys are the best.

Several Things You Need To Do At This Time

You will have to help your new puppy and start with preparations for the world. The first thing is to start introducing the puppy to the collar or even a leash. If you start now, the entire process will be much simpler and your puppy will accept these without a fuss. Later you start, more problems and more time you will experience.

It is also the best time to start with the routine. When you walk your puppy, play with him, feed him and go to bed you must be present at this stage. Once again, we can see that puppies learn a lot and they are easier to teach if you start at this stage.

Some of you will want to walk their puppy outside. This is not a good idea. They need the second vaccination and 2 weeks time to develop the effects of the vaccination. This simply means that puppies are not strong enough to resist bacteria, viruses, and all the threats at this age. Wait a bit more and then you can walk a puppy outside. Right now, you should play with a puppy inside the house or in the backyard.

You need to start socializing with your puppy. It is best if your friends can come over to your home. By doing this a puppy stays safe yet socialization is present. At this age, puppies love to meet other people and even animals. But, because the second vaccination needs time to start working, you should avoid exposing the puppy to other dogs.

Your puppy needs to accept the fact you will have to brush his teeth, cut his nails, and all the rest. Now is the time to start doing all these things. Gradually introduce the nail clippers and allow your puppy to accept these and understand that they are not causing pain! Make teeth brushing a fun activity and even a game rather than a mandatory task.

Playing with the puppy and just petting him are mandatory things here. Puppies who get this level of attention socialize much better and faster. They also become better pets later in life. They know that you have been there since the beginning.

Eating and Playing Facts

Puppies eat a lot but they get tired fast. Some puppies, usually those from large dogs, are already very heavy so they can’t walk for a long period of time. You need to be prepared for that. If you are playing in the backyard or walking the puppy, make sure to leave as soon as possible. Just allow the puppy to see and experience a thing for a few minutes and leave. If not, a puppy will become tired soon and you won’t show him anything.

It is also advised to carry food with you. They eat a lot and they always need a fresh piece of food nearby. Yes, they will sleep after they eat so you need to know about this as well. This is another reason why keeping a puppy for 10 weeks in the house or the backyard is the more preferable method.

The Final Word

What can I expect from my 10-week old puppy? You can expect a lot of wonderful things. Honestly, this is the time frame where a puppy stops being a baby that only sleeps and becomes a ‘’toddler’’. Puppies at 10 weeks of age are still sensitive, small, and need proper care. They are large babies, in essence, so treat one as such. Don’t forget that this is the time when you should start training and teaching your puppy all sorts of things.
