Today I am going to reveal and share another cool recipe, frozen dog treats. This recipe is extremely simple. Honestly, you will need a few minutes of your time and a few basic ingredients. My dog Lily loves it and can eat tons of it. The best part is the fact this is a safe treat that you can use every single day.
Obviously, the treat is frozen hence you will have to give it to your dog during the warm months. I don’t recommend making and feeding dogs with this treat during the winter. After all, we don’t eat ice cream during winter either.
Frozen banana and peanut butter treat
As I have mentioned above the entire process is extremely simple. Obviously, I will share a complete guide with you. In a nutshell, you will have to mash the bananas and keep peanut butter in the microwave for 15 minutes. This is a big part of the recipe.
I then freeze the mixture using ice cube molds. Many options are possible but silicone ones work the best. Lily is a big dog, German Shepherd hence I can make large cubs. If your pet is smaller, make smaller cubes. Always, make food pieces and treats that are suitable for the size of your dog. This applies to everything a dog can eat. By using this trick your pet will not choke while eating. Some dogs eat very fast hence they need this trick more than others.
I gave Lily the treat a couple of times and she loves it. She enjoys eating the treat in the afternoon while chilling in the backyard. I noticed that all other dogs (her friends) love it as well. Honestly, I didn’t see a dog who refused this treat.
Step by Step Guide
- Use a bowl and mash bananas. They should be perfectly smooth.
- Add the rest of the ingredients and mix all of this. Stop when the mixture looks great.
- Now pour the mixture into the ice cube molds and place them in the freezer. Keep them the entire night.
- Keep the treats in a freezer in an airtight container.
- You can keep these for weeks.
- Make sure you make a lot of these just in case.
- Peanut butter: ½ cup
- 2 bananas
- 1 Greek yogurt
Additional things to know:
You will have to keep peanut butter in the micro oven for a couple of minutes only. This is needed in order to make it easier to work with. You can use ordinary peanut butter but the entire process will be harder. You will have to stir harder and prolong the entire process.
It is mandatory to use peanut butter without xylitol. This is an artificial sweetener that is toxic to dogs and as such must not be a part of their diet, even in the smallest amounts. You can even check with your vet and see which peanut butter brands he recommends.
