There are only two possible reasons why you can make a dog pee. The first one is to train him so he can pee on your command. The second one is more specific. You will have to express your bladder. Both can help you and can be essential in some cases. How to make your dog pee? Well, look at these options and choose accordingly.

Training Your Pet To Pee On Command

Honestly, it is a much better and more appealing option than the two. You can train your pet to pee on the command which is effective and helpful. How do you make your dog pee? Follow these steps and you will soon have a dog that obeys you, even in this case scenario.

1. Start with a trigger word

You need to use one word every single time when you want him to pee. The best example would be ‘’go pee’’ or something similar. Keep in mind that it should be simple and your dog should understand it immediately. Be free to choose anything you like.

2. Choose the spot

Now you must choose a spot where your pet will pee. It should be in your backyard. Close to the house and it is a mandatory step here. Grass would be the best option here. All dogs love peeing on the grass hence it can speed things up. You can even make a perfect spot for your dog.

3. Understand when your pet wants to pee

Dogs typically pee in the mooring, after they eat, a couple of hours later, and when drinking water. They also pee before they go to sleep. Once you know when he wants to pee, you will train him easily and in less time. You have to determine as many times as you can when he wants to pee. This has a huge effect on the training in general.

4. Create a routine

Now you will have to take him outside at specific times when he is more likely to pee. Repeat this process as long as possible, as many times per day as you have to. Stick to the routine.

5. Wait for him to pee

You will have to wait for your dog to pee. This can last a couple of minutes or much longer. Sadly, you will have to repeat the process a lot of times. It is important to add that you must not play with your dog or show him any affection. If you do this, you will have to wait longer.

6. Say the word

Once your pet starts peeing, say the trigger word. It must be the same word every single time and it should be short and direct. Be positive about it so a dog can understand that he is a good dog. You will want to say that at the end. Say ‘’good boy’’ or something similar. The goal is to create a link between the trigger word and the action. Also, you need to create a link between action and positive reinforcement.

7. Reward him

Every single time a dog does something nice and positive you will have to reward him. Now is the best time to do this. Give him a treat if you like. You can also pat him or scratch him. All this works well.

8. Adjust the trigger word timing

Now you will have to change when you say the trigger word. Instead of saying it when your dog starts peeing, say it before. Repeat this as long as possible. Always reward your pet with a treat or scratching once he obeys you. He will link the action with the threat and he will always pee on the command from now on. Of course, he will pee when you are not there as well.

Here we can add a couple of things. Never punish your pet. It will have a negative impact on all of this and you won’t achieve anything. Do not try to rush things. You will fail. Finally, you may want to talk to your vet. Just to make sure there are no issues or for more specific directions depending on the breed.

Expressing His Bladder

You can do another thing in this scenario. You can express his bladder if you want to make a dog pee. This is something you may have to do when you have an old dog, a pet with a specific condition or disease, and in other, special circumstances. To do this right, follow the steps below.

1. Locate his bladder

The bladder of a dog is in the rear part of the abdomen, after the ribs. You can press the area and you will notice it quickly. Keep in mind that your thumb should be on one side and the rest of your fingers on the other.

2. Squeeze the bladder

Yes, you will have to squeeze the bladder now and you will see a pet lifting his tail. This simply means he wants to pee. You will also see a steady urine flow. Keep squeezing and moving all across the bladder as long as your pet is peeing. Once the urine flow ends or it starts dripping you are done. Your dog will be in relief.

All of this is not something most of you will do but it can be mandatory in certain cases. Keep in mind that you can also use fists to squeeze the bladder. This can be helpful to women. Also, you should know that large dogs do have a big bladder so this process is going last. Take your time.

The Final Word

How to make your dog pee? Well, there are two main options. Once is better and one is mandatory in certain situations. You can use both if you must. Training your pet to pee on command is something you may want to consider right now. It is one of the most effective pieces of training and one that can make owning a dog extremely easy and simple.
