Have you ever wonder how to clean dog teeth at home? Is this something you can do and should you do it in the first place? The answer is yes. You can do it all by yourself and it is extremely simple and easy. However, some dogs simply don’t like this process so they will do anything they can and try to avoid it.

Below, we will help you by revealing a small guide and also answer additional questions you may have. Brushing the teeth on your pet is mandatory.

How To Clean Dog Teeth At Home

Brushing your dog’s teeth is essential

The first and the most important thing to understand is that brushing the teeth of your dog is mandatory and extremely important. Want to know how to clean dog teeth at home? Well, this is the first and the most important part of the process. There are a few additional things you need to know in this case scenario.

First of all, you must not use the toothpaste you are using for your own teeth. Dogs do not like these and there may be some ingredient their teeth do not like either. Use toothpaste designed and made for dogs. They have poultry or even meat taste and dogs like these. They consider this as a meal rather than anything else.

Always use a toothbrush that is designed for dogs as well. These can be finger toothbrushes or ordinary models that look like any other toothbrush. But, all of these will have extra-soft bristles and they are easy to use and effective in removing plaque.

Do not use your personal toothbrush. It won’t be very effective. On the other hand, you can use a toothbrush from your child. They have almost identical bristles. Still, the easiest option is to use a finger toothbrush, if your dog likes to move or avoids brushing his teeth.

We must add that using salt or baking soda must be avoided at all costs. These are not dangerous to the teeth. But, they are dangerous if consumed and it will happen every single time when you brush the teeth on your pet. The situation is the same when it comes to human toothpaste. As such, you do need to invest in proper toothpaste.

Brushing a dog’s teeth once per day is ideal

Many owners want to know how frequently they need to brush the teeth of their dogs. Some believe that once per week is an ideal number. Others claim that there is no need to do that often. In reality, you need to brush the teeth on your dog once per day! Ideally, you will do this in the evening. Brushing his teeth less frequently isn’t a wise thing to do.

There is no need to tell you that you need to take your time and make sure his teeth are perfectly clean. This may be a simple process but only if your pet allows you to brush his teeth. To make things easier, start doing this when your pet is small so he can adapt easily and maybe even enjoy this.

If you want, you can take your dog to a professional and clean his teeth using advanced methods. This can be done once per year. It isn’t mandatory but it is preferable, especially if you have an older dog. Also, if your or eats dirt or other non-food things, you will need to take him to a professional more frequently.

Include chewing toys

An interesting thing many dog owners have been using are chewing toys. Yes, they are primeral6l developed for preventing boredom in dogs but they are effective in keeping their teeth clean as well. There are special toys for this purpose. Your pet will chew them and have fun at the same time.

A by product of all of this is better oral health. We should add that the best toys are hard to find. There are many options to purchase, but not all dogs like all the toys of this kind. You will need to mix and match until your pet is perfectly happy. This isn’t a replacement for brushing his teeth, but an addition that is very helpful and effective.

Using a dental diet

You may want to use a dental diet. This involves feeding your pet with special kibble that has texture and shape so it will scrape and clean the teeth of your dog. Believe it or not, it works perfectly and it is something many dog owners have been using for a long period of time.

There is no need to tell you that this food is safe to use and it includes various nutrients and compounds dogs need.

Another thing to know in this case scenario is that this food has been properly tested and approved by professionals. As such, there are no safety issues or complications. It can be used on all dog breeds but you still need to find the food that is just right for your particular pet. Some dogs do need time to get used to it.

Don’t forget that you still need to brush the teeth of your dog occasionally. This is still the best and the most desirable method for keeping the teeth of your pet safe and sound. Yes, you can also take him to a professional once per year to clean his teeth.

Dogs that hate teeth brushing will be ideal candidates for this diet. We can also see that dog owners who don’t have enough time nor they want to brush the teeth of their dogs should consider this type of diet.

Conclusion

Now you know how to clean dog teeth at home and make sure there are no issues of any kind. It is worth noting that all dogs must keep their teeth clean and this is even more important for dogs that’s spend the entire day in an apartment.

Adding the dental diet to the life of your pet is something you can do as well and it is very efficient.
