How do you get dogs unstuck is a question you need an answer to? Well, this is more commonly needed than you may believe. All dogs get stuck at some point and you need to do not so obvious thing.

Below, we are going to give you the answer on what to do and why it is important to be done. The answer probably isn’t the one you have in mind right now.

How Do You Get Dogs Unstuck

First, Understand The Term

When we say, “How do you get dogs unstuck?” we don’t refer to a dog stuck behind a closet or bed. This happens during mating, and it is extremely common. It is also known as a “tie,” and it occurs when the dogs are facing opposite directions while they are stuck.

It is a perfectly normal condition that affects all dogs of all breeds at some point.

This happens once the penis of a male dog swells up inside the vagina of a female dog (a “bitch”) and he can’t pull it out. This will last for 2–30 minutes, but usually it will end after 15 minutes. The ejaculation starts at the beginning, but they will still stay stuck for half an hour.

How to Manage a Dog’s Shedding Season

When we are talking about the basics, we can reveal a few useful facts about this matter. First of all, most if not all male dogs will develop sperm at 7 months of age.

But this sperm must not be used for reproduction. It is known as bad sperm. But, at age 1 year, male dogs are ready for mating.

Most of them can mate without any risk or any issue.

Stud males are most efficient and most suitable for mating starting at 18 months of age. This period will last until they reach 4 or 5 years of age, after which they are not considered the best stud dogs.

After this time frame, the sperm of a dog will start to decay, and it will not be able to penetrate the female egg and do the job. All dogs will stop producing sperm once they reach 10 years of age.

Female dogs will start getting periods as soon as they reach 6 months of age. This refers to smaller dogs. Large dog breeds will start having periods at 18 months. They will have regular periods every 6 months unless there are some issues or complications.

Keep in mind that this affects almost all dog breeds except the Basenji, which will be in heat once per year. This makes mating and reproduction more complicated and difficult. Each period will last for two weeks.

All of you need to know that, despite the period, mating at this age is not recommended. The eggs are not mature enough, and they are less likely to produce healthy puppies. You need to wait until the third period, and then the mating can be done.

How Do You Get Dogs Unstuck

What Should I Do To Get Dogs Unstuck?

The best thing to do is actually nothing. As we have mentioned earlier, this is perfectly normal and once the penis of a male dog decreases, they will end ‘’having a great time’’ and they will unstuck automatically.

As you can see, there is no need to worry or do almost anything. But there are still things you will want to do in some cases.

The first thing to do is to make sure the female stays calm. Almost all male dogs will stay calm and won’t move much during this time. But a female dog, especially if she is much bigger than the male, may move and may even go around the male dog.

This can lead to severe injury, bruising, and bleeding. In rare cases, it can lead to an injury that will need help from a veterinarian. In most cases, there won’t be any need for that.

All you can do is stay down on the floor and make sure the female dog is comfortable. The best option is that the owner of that dog does this due to the obvious perks and advantages. By doing this, she won’t move much, and the risk of her going in circles is almost eliminated. There are no other things you should do.

Yes, most female dogs will stay calm and enjoy the process. But some will cry, while others will try to break loose as quickly as possible. All of this can injure the body, so make sure that doesn’t happen.

It is highly recommended to check the penis of a male dog once mating is done. The penis must go back inside, and it must not hang or be stuck in hair.

Things You Must Not Do

The first thing is obvious. You should not try to separate them manually. This can cause injuries to a man, and you can even feel the teeth of a dog on your own skin. The best thing to do is what we have already mentioned. In addition, you may want to make the dogs comfortable and give them room so they can complete the thing.

Do not use ice or any similar method to solve the problem. There is no problem, so your actions, especially drastic ones like this, are not needed. Make sure you keep your eyes on the dog rather than using ice or anything similar. There is no need to add that you must not pull them apart. You can understand why this is the case.

Preventing Unplanned Breeding in Dogs

While dealing with dogs getting stuck can be stressful, it’s important to note that this can be largely prevented by avoiding unplanned breeding. Here are some strategies to consider:

  • Spay/Neuter Your Dog: The most definitive way to prevent unplanned pregnancies in dogs is through spaying (for females) or neutering (for males). This surgical procedure prevents dogs from reproducing. It has other benefits as well, such as reducing certain behavioral issues and decreasing the risk of some health problems.
  • Responsible Dog Ownership: If you choose not to spay or neuter your dog, it’s critical to take responsibility for controlling their reproduction. This means keeping a close eye on your dog, especially when in heat if female, and making sure they’re securely contained within your property.
  • Heat Cycle Awareness: Understanding your female dog’s heat cycle can help you predict when she will be fertile. Female dogs typically go into heat twice a year and the heat cycle lasts about two weeks. During this time, you’ll need to be extra cautious to keep male dogs away.
  • Consult a Vet: If you are unsure about when and how to neuter/spay your dog, or if you need advice on managing your dog’s reproductive health, consult a veterinarian. They can provide you with the most appropriate and professional advice tailored to your dog’s specific needs.

Remember, preventing unplanned breeding isn’t just about avoiding the awkwardness of dogs getting stuck – it’s about being a responsible pet owner. Unplanned breeding can lead to overpopulation and many dogs without homes. As dog owners, it’s our responsibility to contribute positively to canine well-being and welfare.

The Final Word

So, how do you get dogs unstuck? The answer is that they will do it instead of you. This is all-natural despite the fact that it sounds strange and weird to some owners. You don’t have to do anything except for looking after your dogs.

Always remember that they both need to stay calm for 30 minutes until the process is complete. If they are calm, there are no issues or complications of any kind. They will unstick themselves.
