If you have heard about dog care training collar and you want to know all about it and how it can be used for training a dog, you are on the right page. Below we are going to explain all the main aspects of this matter and also reveal some important things you need to consider. Without further ado, let’s begin.

Dog Care Training Collar: Basics

For lack of a better word, a “dog care training collar” is a type of collar a dog will wear around his neck. An owner or trainer will have a remote controller. From it, he can activate a beep, vibration, or shock. These are levels, and you will ideally start with a beep and move to shock, or another way around, depending on the purpose.

The goal of these collars is to train a dog or eliminate bad behaviours such as chewing, barking at night, etc. You must remember that a collar must be chosen according to the size of your dog. A smaller dog needs a collar with a smaller intensity and gentler shocks. Some new models have collars with adjustable levels, so you can choose the one that matches the needs and size of your dog. But you also need to adjust the length of the collar so it can fit smaller dogs, who obviously have smaller necks.

These collars aim to train a dog or eliminate bad behaviours such as chewing, barking at night, etc. It would help if you remembered that you must choose a collar according to the size of your dog and that there are different varieties of collars.

There are various collars for various dogs, such as long-haired dogs having specific collars for them.If you need to know more about it, look for Best Shock Collars for Long-Haired Dogs.

A smaller dog needs a collar with a smaller intensity and gentler shocks. Some new models have collars with adjustable levels, so you can choose the one that matches the needs and size of your dog. But, you need to adjust the length of the collar as well so it can fit smaller dogs who have smaller necks.

Of course, these collars and the remote have batteries. You will either have to replace or recharge them depending on the model you have. Last but not least, one remote can control two collars, which is ideal if you have two dogs. Don’t worry about any accidents or interference. Modern collars have systems that prevent that. An accidental choke can have a negative effect on your dog’s training!

All collars of this kind are waterproof and they can be worn while you are bathing a dog or when it rains. The range will depend on the model and it can be around 100 feet or much longer.

Training Your Dog Using A Dog Collar

Training with this device is much simpler and easier for you and your dog. If you want to try this method, make sure you use the guide below, and you will teach your pet basic commands within days. Just keep in mind that you need plenty of time, and the actual process may vary depending on your dog.

1. Introduce The Tone To Your Dog

The first thing you need to do is start with the tone. Press the tone buttons for 2–3 seconds. Release the button and reward your dog with a treat or praise. Yes, some use this as a warning, but we believe that the reward method is more effective. Repeat this process for 10 minutes per day for 3 days.

The goal here is to find a recognition level. This is basically the level at which your dog recognises the tone and expects a command. Do not skip to the next step until your dog is ready. In other words, this level will be used to communicate with your pet.

2. Teach Your Pet Basic Commands

Most dog owners will want to teach their dog basic commands like SIT and etc. Let’s imagine that “SIT” command is the first one you want to teach your dog.

You will start by adding another collar to the neck, above the electric one. Attach the leash. While holding the remote in one hand, guide your dog to sit. Press the button on the remote and immediately issue the command “SIT.” When your dog sits, release the button and reward him.

After each try, play with your pet for a few minutes. Then try again. Do not try this immediately after the first try, or it won’t work.

If you want to teach him the “COME” command, the process is similar. You will wait for your dog to go a few feet away from you. Now, issue the “COME” command and pull the leash towards you slowly. Always release the button on the remote when your pet starts walking towards you, and reward him once he comes. Repeat this as many times as needed.

In general, regardless of which commands you want to teach him, you will use the remote and the collar. A dog should know when the command is issued, and a sound or vibration can help him understand better.

3. Changing Bad Behavior

Dog collars are also used to change the bad behavior of a dog. The best example is excessive barking. It can happen during the night, in the early morning, or all the time. Basically, you will have to increase the level of the collar one step higher than the aforementioned recognition level. Issue the QUIET command after you have pressed the button on the remote controller.

If your dog doesn’t stop barking, you will need to increase the level on the collar once again and repeat the step. Do this until your dog understands that he must stop barking when you issue the specific command.

The process is almost the same when it comes to other commands that should affect his behavior. Yes, there are some differences, but the essence is the same. Keep in mind that you should teach your pet basic commands first so you can change his behavior. If you do not, he won’t understand you, and he won’t know that he is doing something bad.

The Final Word

A dog care training collar is an impressive gadget that has been used for dog training and by owners for a long period of time. It is the best method you can use to train a dog and change his behavior. Some practise is needed, and your dog will need to learn the basics, but this process doesn’t take long, and it is very appealing to most dog owners.
