Can I feed my dog rice every day? Dog owners frequently present this problem in front of their veterinarians whether it is good to offer rice to their dogs every day. If you are among those dog owners who are confused about feeding rice to your dog, you are at the very right place. This article will give you every information regarding rice that will clear your every misconception about rice.

Rice has been a major source of energy throughout the world. Humans and animals are both consuming it from the beginning. But recently, there has been a lot of misconception about offering rice to dogs. This misconception is not only based on assumptions, but it has some logical ground that we will discuss in the later sections.

First, we will discuss if rice is good for your furry friend? Can you daily offer rice to your furry friend without causing any harm? It is important because in whatever corner of the world you are living, you are going to encounter rice every time you go to the market.

Therefore, it is better to clear your mind whether your dog can eat rice daily without doing any harm or not.

Can I feed my dog rice every day?

Rice is a prevalent food throughout the world. Most dog foods contain rice as one of the major ingredients. Rice grains are a rich source of energy and therefore can be used as one of the main ingredients of the daily diet. There is no harm in offering your furry friend rice every day. However, if rice means no harm to your furry friend, it does not mean you should offer it daily.

Dogs have a delicate digestive system. Especially, pet dogs kept on dog foods have a sensitive digestive system that can be upset by slight changes in diet. Pet dogs are kept with great care. Moreover, your focus should be on a diet. Your dog’s daily rice intake should never exceed 10% of daily calorie intake.

Rice grains contain a high amount of carbohydrates which is a good sign as well as a bad one. If you offer rice grains in a moderate amount, your dog will benefit from it. However, if you keep your dog on just rice, the high concentration of starch can become harmful for your dog.

Even though you want your dog to eat rice every day, you should limit its concentration to a balanced amount. There is no harm in offering rice to your grain in balanced quantities. If rice grains meet the daily requirements of carbohydrates and do not exceed, you can daily offer rice to your furry friend.

Health benefits of feeding rice to your dog

Brown rice

Brown rice is a rice grain that doesn’t bear heavy processing. It contains more fiber contents as compared to white rice; that is the only difference between the two. However, most of the feed companies nowadays are using brown rice instead of white rice because of its high fibre content.

The price of white rice is less than brown rice, but still, brown rice is more in demand. Brown rice outnumber white rice in the sense that it still possesses its coating. Most of the fibre content lies in the coating of rice.

Helps in weight gain

If you want your puppy or adult dog to gain weight, rice grains are the best choice. Rice grains contain a high amount of carbohydrates which is responsible for weight gain. It is better if you offer steamed or boiled brown rice to your furry friend.

Helps prevent stomach upsets

If your dog is suffering from an upset stomach, rice can help him avoid this situation. In case of an upset stomach, slightly cooked brown rice or white will  improve the digestibility. Additionally, the fibre content of the rice will help cure the upset stomach

Helps treat constipation

Brown rice contains a high fibre content, and it helps cure constipation. Again, brown rice is better than white rice because of its more fibre content. You should offer rice in diarrhoea as rice stimulates bowel movement, which is favourable in diarrheic conditions.

Precautions on feeding your dog rice everyday

Dogs are very sensitive to contaminated foods. Their stomach gets upset after eating food contaminated with any kind of pathogen or toxic substance. Therefore, you should offer high-quality rice to your dog. Consider purchasing rice from a well-reputed buyer. Make sure that the rice does not contain arsenic impurities.

Another precaution is not to exceed the daily requirement of rice. Too much carbohydrate is not safe and healthy for your furry friend. It may result in upsetting the stomach or causing chronic diseases. Therefore, you should limit the amount of rice you offer to your furry friend.

Final thoughts

Can I feed my dog rice every day? Rice is one of the healthy and safe diets for your dog. Your dog suffers no harm if you feed him rice. However, you should not do that. You should not offer him the same diet every day. Your dog needs a balanced diet for good health and wellbeing. Therefore, feeding him large quantities of rice is not a good choice.

You can daily feed your dog rice in addition to other food ingredients. If you are balancing your dog’s daily food, you can feed him rice. It means that you are offering him carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals and vitamins through multiple food ingredients. And rice is one of the food ingredients offering the daily required carbohydrate, proteins and fibres.

You should avail the options of feeding brown rice instead of white rice, sometimes. Brown rice comes with more fibre content. White rice is easily digestible and therefore better for dogs with an upset stomach. Remember to always offer boiled or slightly cooked rice to your furry friend.

Steaming or boiling are the best ways to offer rice to your furry friends. You should offer rice fried with soy sauce or something else. Your furry friend can go with boiled rice very well.
