Imagine hot and creamy cheese melting down your pizza or an aromatic bowl of cheese soup tempting you to grab it! Well, cheese is a tasty and nutritious superfood, relished by humans all over the world. Can dogs eat cheese?

What about our four-legged friends? Can dogs munch on cheese? Is it safe to share a piece of cheese with our beloved companion? What if your pooch pounces on a large chunk of cheddar when you’re away?

Don’t worry; we’ve got all this covered for you. This article covers all questions related to dogs eating cheese. Let’s begin!

Can Dogs Eat Cheese?

The simplest answer is yes. Dogs can eat cheese but in portions. But there are a few things, like your dog’s weight, digestive health, and even the type of cheese, that need to be considered before offering cheesy meals.

All dogs have different dietary requirements, and cheese serves as a perfect treat during training sessions and a tool to hide medicine.

Excess of anything, however, is harmful.Regularly adding cheese blocks to your dog’s plate, especially if the dog is dairy intolerant, can create trouble for both of you.

Is Cheese Good for Dogs?

Cheese is a good add-on to your dog’s meal, but only if it is done often. Cheese is a rich source of nutrients like calcium, protein, vitamin A, zinc, and vitamin B12. But a routine diet is enough to fulfil these requirements. So, only offer cheese as a treat.

Cheese on its own is not toxic to your dog.If it contains garlic, onions, nuts, or fruits, your dog can face health issues. Don’t forget to hide cheese if the dog is allergic to dairy products. This human food is harmful to lactose-intolerant dogs.

Moreover, cheese is packed with calories, fats, and a salty taste, which is a bad choice for dogs dealing with kidney problems.

Can Dogs Eat Cream Cheese?

The cream cheese is full of cream, which means it is rich in fat and lactose. Furthermore, the fermentation of cream cheese removes lactose in small quantities. Even if you own an agile breed, never feed cream cheese to dogs. It can disturb the digestive system as well.

And How About Cottage Cheese?

You can give unpressed cottage cheese to your furry friend. Due to its low sodium content, fewer fats, and yogurt-like taste, cottage cheese is loved by dogs. Many pet owners treat their dogs’ upset stomachs using cottage cheese. The cottage cheese already contains milk traces, so never add extra milk.

Can Dogs Eat Blue Cheese?

Blue cheese is made of fungus and ingredients like stilton and Roquefort, which produces a toxic material called Roquefortine C. As soon as your dog eats blue cheese, you will probably notice fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and even seizures. Visit a vet if you find anything wrong with your pup.

Is Parmesan Cheese Safe For Dogs?

Although it contains traces of milk, parmesan cheese is very salty and hard to eat. The granular bites of parmesan cheese can damage the kidney. Also, it has a pungent smell that can irritate sensitive dogs.

Can Dogs Eat Swiss Cheese?

It is okay to feed Swiss cheese to your dog, but always give it in small quantities. Unlike other types of cheese, Swiss cheese is ripened and has small holes in it. The holes are due to the gas bubbles that formed during its production. The nutty cheese has no significant influence on a dog’s health.

As a result, portions are suggested.

Is String Cheese Safe For Dogs?

A perfect and safe option for dogs, string cheese has low proportions of salt and lactose. Small pups may swallow big pieces, so it is always recommended to serve small bites.

Result: Suggested for adults and not for puppies

Is Cheese A Bad Option For My Dog?

Some dogs are sensitive to dairy products; therefore, cheese cannot be the best thing to offer. Although cheese contains milk in a minute quantity compared to other dairy products, lactose-intolerant dogs can face health issues due to cheesy foods.

Always consult a professional veterinarian before sharing cheddar with canine friends.

How Do You Feed Cheese To Your Dog?

A traditional way is to conceal medication, which is very popular among dog owners. Dogs will bite the cheese blocks without even seeing the medicine hidden inside.

Never push an antibiotic into the cheese cube, as it can react with calcium, reducing the effectiveness of the medicine. Small cubes of cheddar are the dog’s favorite treats. As soon as your pup completes a tricky task, offer him a piece of cheese.
