We all know that training your puppy is a huge responsibility and something that we all need to complete. Yes, it is hard and complicated but in the end, you will end up with a puppy who will obey you every single time meaning you will have a great pet. 10-12 Weeks Old Puppy Training Stages are especially appealing. There are a lot of useful pieces of training here. Today, you will learn all about them.

Leash Training

When it comes to 10-12 Weeks Old Puppy Training Stages, leash training has the main role. It is one of the pieces of training you will want to teach your pet and you will want to teach it well. Why? Because you will use this training every single time when you walk your dog in the future. As such, you can imagine the appeal. Here is how you can train your puppy easily.

1. Introduce The Leash

The first thing you need to do is to introduce the leash. Allow your puppy to wear a collar for a short period of time. Make sure you do this every single day. Gradually increase the length he is wearing the collar. The goal is to allow him to adapt to the collar. At first, this is not pleasant, but in time your puppy will accept the collar and the leash.

2. Add A Cue

Now you will have to add a cue. It can be a ‘’yes’’ word, a click, or anything else. While your puppy is sitting, say the word and allow him to look at you. When he looks at you, give him a treat. We must add that the environment must be quiet and a puppy shouldn’t have any distractions there. Soon you will see how your puppy is looking at you. But, he will also come to you. This is the key.

3. Allow Him To Come To You

Allow your puppy to come to you. You will want to give him a treat every single time when he does this. Keep in mind that puppies have a very short attention span. That’s why you will want to take things slow and allow him to adapt. The step can end once your puppy walks with you for a few seconds. Try to increase the duration gradually.

4. Start The Training Inside

All of this must be done inside. If you start outside, the puppy will be surrounded by distractions. This will make the whole training almost impossible or at least extremely difficult. It is much better to start inside where you can control him easily and make sure he learns the basics.

5. Move Outside

Once you are ready, move outside. There will be a lot of distractions at first. Some puppies will need a lot of time to learn this command and they will always look at other things. The first time when that happens, issue the command and move a few feet. Allow your puppy to come to you. Then reward him. This means that he will soon realize that obeying you and following you will get him a reward which is a delicious treat.

Sit Command

Here we have another command that is more than just useful. It is also appealing and something you should teach your puppy as soon as you can. Sit command is also used for other pieces of training so you can see why it is one of the most important. If you want to teach your puppy this command, here are the steps. Take things slow and make sure you are following all the steps at all times. There are two methods as well so you can choose the one you like more.

Capturing Method

  1. Hold the treats in front of your puppy. You can hold food as well. In general, keep in your hands something he loves to eat.
  2. When your puppy sits, you will say ‘’yes’’ and as you can assume, reward him as soon as possible. You may have to wait a couple of minutes but nothing much.
  3. Move a couple of feet from the puppy. Wait for him to stand up and then wait again to sit. Repeat this as many times as you like.
  4. Now you can say ‘’sit’’ every single time when a puppy starts or wants to sit. Take things slow and make sure you will use a calm voice and give plenty of treats.

Luring Method

  1. Hold the treats in front of your puppy. You will have to get down for this method to work.
  2. Place the treat next to his nose. When he reaches it, you will lift the treat above his head. You will see your puppy wanting to sit. Repeat this as many times as needed. Some puppies will sit immediately while others will need a lot more time.
  3. When he sits, give him the treat. Make sure you are doing this properly.
  4. Now you will eliminate the treat. You will use an empty hand to do the same thing. Repeat this as many times as your puppy needs. Keep in mind that you will have to give him a treaty once he sits. There is no way you can train a puppy without a treat.
  5. Now you can start telling him the ‘’sit’’ command and reward him when he obeys you. Always say ‘’sit’’ just before he sits or when you see him wanting to sit down.

Don’t Jump Command

The command here refers to your puppy and later dog humping on you and other people. Yes, it looks fine and most people love it. But most people don’t love it. They would like to avoid this. When it rains this command is more than just important.

Without it, you and your guests will have a lot of dirty jackets and pants. So, how you can do this? The best thing is to start when your dog is still a puppy. There is no simple process here that you need to repeat for a couple of days. You need to use all of the points from below as long as your puppy needs them.

1. Don’t Reward Him

The first step here is to never reward your pet when he does this. Ignore him completely and tell your friends to ignore him completely. He will soon realize that this is not an interesting thing to do and that he should stop. When your puppy is on the ground after he is done jumping, give him a treat. You are encouraging positive behavior and eliminating bad behavior.

2. All People Should Do The Same

As we have above, all of your friends should do the same thing. The goal is not to promote this kind of behavior in any case. When you are walking your puppy, make sure to use a leash and don’t allow him to jump on people. This may sound harsh but it is mandatory. It has a huge role in all of this.

3. Focus His Attention On Something Else

Some puppies will still want to jump and nothing you do will work. Then you need to issue the sit command you have above. Once your puppy sits, you will give him a reward and you will do this as many times as possible. You can also try to do this when you have guests. Before they enter, you will issue the command and you will try to keep your puppy sitting as they arrive.

4. Introduce Him With Your Friends With Care

If your puppy really wants to jump on your friends, this is mandatory. You will keep your puppy in another room. Allow your friends to come to your home but you will keep the puppy in a separate room. You can keep him in a caret as well. Use a leash and bring the puppy into the room.

Make sure your friends are sitting. This means that your puppy will want to jump on them less. Give your puppy treats and even some toys. Repeat this every single time when you have guests. Only once your puppy is trained not to jump on people you can stop using this step.

The Final Word

All you have to know at this stage is that 10-12 Weeks Old Puppy Training Stages are essential. They can make a massive difference and they can make your puppy a much better and more obedient dog later in life.

Yes, these pieces of training are not simple and they will take a lot of time but they are essential. Always be patient with your puppy. He is still a baby so don’t get upset when he doesn’t obey you. If you train him properly. He will obey you your entire life. As always, don’t raise your voice or use force. These have a huge, negative effect on the training and your puppy in general.
